Construction starts tomorrow

We've waited a long time for this day. We did "break ground" a couple of weeks ago, but due to snarls and brambles and briar patches in the development (red tape, in other words), our builder was stuck in limbo for a long, long time. We signed our contract with him back in August, but the developer wasn't ready to sell the lots until December. Boring long waiting stuff ensued, but it's finally time to see a house rise from the dirt.

The planets must be aligned this week, because it looks like we may have an offer coming on our house, too. The couple was ready to write a contract Sunday, but their realtor told our realtor today that they want to look at two new listings tomorrow. We should know what they are going to do by Thursday (I hope). We're not in a big rush...the new house won't be ready until mid-May (and that's optimistic), but it would be nice to get off the market.

The good things about living in your house while it's on the market:
1. It's clean all the time. Well, almost all the time. And when it's less-than-clean, it's still pretty darn clean. Since we've been at this since September, my kids have gotten much better at picking up after themselves. We can hope that the habit will continue.
2. It forces you to leave your house and do things very spontaneously. We've taken walks that we wouldn't have taken, we've played in the park when we wouldn't have planned to, and we've seen movies on Sunday afternoons. Great in good weather, expensive in bad weather. Thank goodness for the public library!
3. You get used to the idea that it's just a house. We removed art from the walls. We painted walls colors that we don't really like. The house doesn't really feel like our home anymore. That will make it much easier to leave when it's time.
4. The "for sale" sign in the yard is a great landmark when giving friends directions to your house.

I won't list the bad things...they're obvious.

I've got my camera in my purse, and I'm ready to start the photo essay on our new home's growth. It may well be as well-documented as our first child!
