Meeting with the builder went well
I'm feeling a little better about this project now. The builder's bid came in almost exactly where we wanted it, and that was including some upgrades to the new house that I can live without. He and I shaved a little here, a little there, and I think we are now at the exact dollar amount I want to spend! He did tell me that he's giving us a better deal than he normally would, since we're the first to build in that subdivision, and he knows there will be a lot of publicity when we move in, which can only do his business good, too. Sounds win-win to me! Unfortunately, the developers still haven't returned either of our phone calls about the lot cost, which will affect the final bid, but I have faith that we'll have that number next week. Then he'll secure his end of the financing, and we'll be off and running! He told me yesterday that he wants to get this house done quickly (but not just throw it up there) because of the P.R. opportunity that it presents.
Still holding on to that Thanksgiving moving date...it could happen after all!!
Must paint house, must paint house. It's hard to get excited about making the "old" house look pretty when the new house is almost within reach!! We're about halfway done with the interior painting, and the realtor is coming by to talk to me about how much else we really need to do (I sure hope she says "not much"). But the bedrooms we've done look much better than they did, and we've gotten some necessary repairs out of the way, with a bit of plumbing repairs ahead of us (ouch...I know that's going to be pricey).
Anyone know a good, reliable, and cheap plumber in Memphis?
